Some West Yorkshire CANN Organisations

The Chronicle Sunshine Fund

The Chronicle Sunshine Fund is a local northeast charity that provides specialist and adapted equipment to children aged 0-19 living with disabilities, additional needs, chronic and terminal illness. The types of equipment we can fund are not available through statutory services like the Local Authority or NHS; yet they are vital to the daily life of our Sunshine kids. These specific pieces of equipment enrich quality of life for not only the children, but their wider families and communities. We also hold free family fun sessions during school holidays, these range from our annual beach day so our themed sensory sessions.

The Sensory Place.

The Sensory Place is a parent-led charity offering a network of support to families of children with all disabilities aged 0-18 years. We are all parents of a child or children with a disability and we felt that there were just not enough places to go or things to do when you have a child who has additional needs as mainstream activities are just not accessible for many different reasons. We also experienced judgement and isolation as other people do not always understand the difficulties families like ours face. We knew we weren’t alone in thinking this and so The Sensory Place was born in 2019 with a view to changing this for the better. So whether your child is a sensory seeker, avoider, both or neither – welcome! We hope that you find the support within the group that you are looking for.

Choice Wellbeing Service CIC

Choice Wellbeing Service was established in February 2023, to support the mental health and wellbeing parent carers across the Northeast area. We are fully aware, being parent carers, working within SEND and being mental health practitioners ourselves, where the gaps in Sunderland/South Tyneside are when it comes to the care of the individuals who are caring for children with additional needs. We are aware that quite often individuals who receive a diagnosis of additional need for their children have no idea where to start, what their entitlements are, or if they are even accessing the correct service or provision. This then creates issues for the individuals in the caring role, impacting their mental health in the long term, then unfortunately, possibly impacting the child.
