Our Families First service has Family Practitioners based regionally across England and Wales and our Support Advisor is available by phone or email. Activities are held both in London and online. We also work with local partners to offer activities across England and Wales. We have a Family Practitioner dedicated to the North East region who can support the whole family through our Families First service. This support can be provided in-person or remotely.  From the moment you receive a diagnosis that your child has sight loss, if there is a change in vision, if your child or family are going through some changes that are difficult to manage or any other time when life just seems a bit tough, get in touch […]

Skills for People

Skills for People is a charity which has been supporting disabled people and their families since 1983. The Family Advice and Support Team provides support for parents and carers in Newcastle upon Tyne who have children and young people up to the age of 25, who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The team gives information and advice on a range of issues and can also work with a family to provide more in depth support if needed. We have a regular newsletter, hold coffee mornings across the city and have a closed facebook page for parents called Pass it on Parents Newcastle. We can help with funding applications and can provide training such as Positive Behaviour Workshops for parents to understand and support their child where behaviours are a concern. We work with partners in education, health and social care as well as other voluntary organisations.

The Sensory Place.

The Sensory Place is a parent-led charity offering a network of support to families of children with all disabilities aged 0-18 years. We are all parents of a child or children with a disability and we felt that there were just not enough places to go or things to do when you have a child who has additional needs as mainstream activities are just not accessible for many different reasons. We also experienced judgement and isolation as other people do not always understand the difficulties families like ours face. We knew we weren’t alone in thinking this and so The Sensory Place was born in 2019 with a view to changing this for the better. So whether your child is a sensory seeker, avoider, both or neither – welcome! We hope that you find the support within the group that you are looking for.
